Mantra

ॐ गं गणपतये नमः

Salutations to Ganapati, remover of obstacles.

Offerings (samagri)

  • • Durva grass (21 blades)
  • • Modak or laddoo
  • • Red flowers
  • • Sindoor
  • • Coconut

Vidhi

  1. 1. Bathe, wear clean clothes and sit facing east or north.
  2. 2. Light the diya and incense; sprinkle water for purification (achamana).
  3. 3. Take a sankalpa — state your name, gotra, the date and your intention.
  4. 4. Invoke Ganesha (avahana) and offer a seat.
  5. 5. Offer water, sindoor, durva and red flowers.
  6. 6. Offer modak as naivedya and chant the mantra 108 times.
  7. 7. Perform aarti clockwise, then offer flowers (pushpanjali).
  8. 8. Ask forgiveness for any mistakes (kshama prarthana) and share prasad.
